Big changes! May 27, 2010

Last night we went to see the girls and we were amazed to find that Teagan had been completely taken off of oxygen and the nasal cannula!! She’s also started to take some of her feedings by bottle and we got to try feeding her last night! She hasn’t completely mastered it yet so then end up gavage feeding the remaining part, but when I called today she had taken 20mls out of the 30mls she gets each time… So she’s getting better! They also told us once she gets to 1500 grams she’ll be put on air mode in her isolette (right now she’s on skin mode and the isolette adjusts according to her body temperature). Once she’s on air mode she’ll be able to wear clothes. As of last night she was 1470 so we’re getting really close!

Evie and Adeline are also doing well…Evie has been taken off of continuous feeds and is now feeding every 3 hours. They’re doing this to get her ready for a bottle too. Adeline’s feeds have been increased to 24mls every 3 hours. Both gained a good amount of weight too–Evie is 2 lbs, 6oz and Adeline is 2lbs, 8oz, which means both of them are exactly 1 pound over their birth weight now!

The girls have their repeat eye exam today so we’re hoping for some good results today!

It’s been awhile! May 25, 2010

Sorry for the lack of updates! There just hasn’t been much to update on and we’ve been pretty busy.

The babies are doing really good though! Everyone is just growing and working on not having as many brady’s. Teagan got moved to the “B nursery” which is a step down from the more critical care side. They’re talking about moving Adeline over too but her nurses don’t want to give her up:) They’re all getting bigger everday! Teagan is 3 pounds, 4 ounces…Adeline is 2 pounds, 7 ounces and Evie is 2 pounds, 3 ounces. They’re handing their feeds well. They have a repeat eye check this Thursday. Nothing else is really new!

No news is good news in the nicu!!

Thursday’s visit! May 21, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — jolleytripletrouble @ 12:08 pm

The girls were a little tired when we went to see them last night…they had eye exams (which is pretty stressful for them) and head ultrasounds all in the same day. The eye exams were inconclusive at this point since the blood vessels in their eyes are not fully developed yet. They’ll recheck them on a weekly basis until they can rule out any issues. The reason they check their eyes is because they’re at risk for a problem called Retinopathy of Prematurity. Some information about ROP is at this link: http://www.nei.nih.gov/health/rop/rop.asp#1

Everyone’s head ultrasound looked good…Adeline, who had a grade 1-2 bleed previously, had an “unremarkable” scan. We’re hoping that means the bleed resolved completely, but we’re going to double check when we go up today.

Feeds are going well and the girls are growing! Adeline is 2lbs, 5oz…Evie is 2lbs, 2oz…and Teagan is a massive THREE POUNDS!!!

Yesterday! May 19, 2010

So since I was feeling completely better yesterday and Bryan was almost completely better (minus a lingering cough), we decided to go in and see the babies. Bryan wore a mask and gloves and didn’t come too close so he didn’t get the babies sick. Everyone is still hanging in there. Evie had a brady while we were there and Adeline was desatting…so that was no fun. But the nurses tell us they’ll grow out of that eventually; not that it makes it any less scary when it happens. The good news is everyone is still growing and doing well overall! Teagan is a massive 2lbs, 14oz!! Adeline is 2lbs, 4 oz and Evie is FINALLY 2lbs!!

We weren’t able to go and see the babies today because we’re both coming down with a cold:( We did call and get updates throughout the day and the babies are doing well. They hadn’t weighed them yet when we last called so we’re not sure what their new weights are. They haven’t had too many bradys today and Teagan’s nurse said she was “a model baby”. So while we’re sad we can’t see them, we’re so glad things are going well.

The babies have repeat head scans and their first eye exams this thursday so keep them in your prayers for good news!! We’re hoping we get well really fast so we can go and see them soon!!

Bath time!! May 16, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — jolleytripletrouble @ 4:47 pm

Today we got to give Adeline and Evie a bath! A huge thank you to our nurse who let us do it! She really is amazing! Teagan’s nurse has been MIA the last few times we’ve been up there (it’s been crazy on the side she is on…we’ve never seen the nicu so packed), so we haven’t been able to do much with her.

Adeline gained a huge amount of weight…the nurse actually weighed her 3 times to make sure it was correct. She’s now at 2lbs, 2oz. She gained 2oz overnight! Teagan is still the biggest at 2lbs, 10oz and Evie is ALMOST 2lbs at 1lb, 15oz!

All of the babies are doing really well!

growing! May 15, 2010

We just got home from seeing the babies today…Adeline is now 2 pounds!! Teagan is 2 pounds 9oz and Evie isn’t too far behind at 1lb 14oz!! Now they’re really growing!!

Everything else is pretty much the same…everyone’s still doing well. They did increase their oxygen to 25% to help with their brady’s and it seems to be working!

Tomorrow one of our favorite nurses is going to let us help give Evie and Adeline their baths! We’re excited!!

Here’s some pictures from the last couple of days…

1 month old! May 12, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — jolleytripletrouble @ 10:14 pm

Today the girls are one month old. It has been a stressful month, but a good one too. Evie is at 1lb 13oz, Adeline is 1lb 14oz, and Teagan is 2lb 6oz. Adeline had some irritation in her nose from the cannula so she was having a lot of desats, but after some nose drops she seems to be doing much better. All are handling their feeds well. They’re still having bradys and apnea every now and then but the nurses tell us that’s to be expected. Keep praying everyone, we appreciate all the support.

Happy Mother’s Day!! May 9, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — jolleytripletrouble @ 11:10 pm

The girls are doing good! Today we spent some time with them for Mother’s Day…Bryan changed Adeline’s diaper and I got to kangaroo with Teagan. She had a bad case of hiccups which was super cute (and we got video of it). They’re all growing and eating well. Adeline’s brain bleed is getting smaller and Evie’s blood cultures are still coming back negative. Also, the nicu nurses helped the girls make Mother’s Day cards for me to take home with their footprints on them. Super cute!

Here’s some pics from today’s visit!

**We had some video up of Teagan’s hiccups and Bryan changing Adeline’s diaper but you tube only allows 25 people to view it under the “private” setting. Since apparently 25 people have already viewed it, you tube is now showing video of people drinking beer and dogs humping pillows…we don’t know those people I swear lol. Once I find another way to post video on here I’ll definitely put them back up. But to save confusion I took them off:) Just know they were super cute!!

5-6 May 7, 2010

Everything is still good! Teagan is up to 2lbs, 4 oz. We didn’t get the Evie or Adeline’s weight because we were too excited to be doing kangaroo care with them. Bryan held Adeline and I held Evie. Teagan looked like she was sleeping too peacefully to be bothered.

In other news, Evie is on antibiotics for an infection. Her last 2 blood cultures came back negative though so she’s basically just on the antibiotics to be extra sure the infection is gone. Everyone is handling their feeds well too! They added rice cereal to Evie and Adeline’s milk to see if it will help with their reflux (what we’ve been told is a pretty common thing with babies of their size). We’re still waiting on the results from Adeline’s head scan but hoping to get those today or tomorrow.
